What are the products of tire refining?

 After pyrolysis of waste tire rubber, three-phase products of solid (solid carbon), liquid (pyrolysis oil) and gas (pyrolysis gas) are produced.

The main component of the solid product is CBp, which is also called pyrolysis carbon or recycled carbon black (rCB). It is composed of carbon black (CB) used in tire manufacturing, ash and solid tar adsorbed on the surface. It is a light carbonaceous material, an amorphous carbon composed of several layers of parallel carbon network planes, other single network planes without parallel layers and irregular carbon. Because the performance requirements of different parts of the tire are different, a variety of different carbon blacks are added. Pyrolysis carbon black is essentially the reduction of carbon black added during production, in addition to other small amounts of inorganic and metal substances added during production, such as zinc compounds and cobalt compounds.
Pyrolysis oil (TPO) accounts for a large proportion of the pyrolysis products of tire rubber, containing a variety of aromatic compounds, a small amount of aliphatic compounds and oxides. Rapid pyrolysis of waste tires can produce oil fractions in the range of 30-60wt% (mass percentage) and is carried out in reactors similar to biomass pyrolysis, such as fixed bed, fluidized bed, spouted bed, spiral and rotary kiln reactors. Tire pyrolysis oil has a high carbon content (about 85wt%) and calorific value (42MJ/kg), similar to gasoline or light fuel oil. However, due to the high content of sulfur and aromatic components in pyrolysis oil, it cannot be used directly as fuel, which means that an upgraded process is needed. Commonly used methods include hydrodesulfurization, hydrodearomatization and hydrocracking.
 
Pyrolysis gas is a non-degradable gas formed during the pyrolysis and condensation of waste tires, mainly including hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), ethane (C2H6), ethylene (C2H4), propane (C3H8), propylene (C3H6), butane (C4H10), butene (C4H8) and butadiene (C4H6), with a molecular weight of about 30%~53%. The calorific value of pyrolysis gas is similar to that of natural gas, so most pyrolysis gas can be used directly as fuel gas.
