Can PVC be refined using pyrolysis equipment?

 PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is generally not recommended for oil refining.

The waste plastic refining technology mainly converts waste plastics into fuel oil through processes such as pyrolysis and catalytic cracking. However, not all waste plastics are suitable for this process. Due to its special chemical structure, PVC may produce harmful substances such as hydrogen chloride during pyrolysis, which are not only harmful to the environment, but also may cause corrosion to oil refining equipment.

Specifically, PVC will face the following problems during pyrolysis:
 
• Poor thermal stability: PVC has poor thermal stability and usually begins to decompose at a lower temperature (such as 140°C), which increases the technical difficulty and safety hazards in the oil refining process.
 
• Production of harmful substances: PVC will produce toxic gases such as hydrogen chloride during pyrolysis, which require special treatment to prevent environmental pollution.
 
• Equipment corrosion: Corrosive gases such as hydrogen chloride will cause serious corrosion to oil refining equipment, affecting the service life and safety of the equipment.
 
Therefore, in the process of waste plastic refining, PVC is usually avoided as a raw material, or strict pretreatment is carried out before use to remove harmful substances.
 
In summary, PVC is generally not recommended for oil refining to avoid adverse effects on the environment and equipment. In the application of waste plastic refining technology, thermoplastics with stable chemical structures and high-quality oil products produced during pyrolysis should be preferred as raw materials.
