What are the advantages of solid waste pyrolysis compared to incineration?

Pyrolysis is a traditional production process, which has been widely used in the processing of fuels such as wood, coal, heavy oil, and oil shale. It has a very long history. After this pyrolysis treatment, solid waste can not only obtain fuels and chemical products that are easy to store and transport, but also the carbon slag obtained under high temperature conditions will form a hard and brittle inert solid product with certain inorganic substances and heavy metal components in the material, making its subsequent landfill disposal operations safer and more convenient.
With the development of modern industry, pyrolysis treatment has become one of the promising solid waste treatment methods. It can treat organic solid wastes with certain energy, including urban garbage, sludge, waste plastics, waste rubber, industrial and agricultural and forestry wastes, human and animal feces, etc.
The following is a comparison between pyrolysis and incineration
Compared with incineration, the advantages of pyrolysis of solid waste are:
1. Organic matter in solid waste can be converted into storage energy mainly composed of fuel gas, fuel oil and carbon black;
2. Due to the anoxic decomposition, the exhaust volume is small, and the NOx, SOx, HCI, etc. produced by pyrolysis are less. The generated gas or oil can be burned at a low air ratio, which is conducive to reducing secondary pollution to the atmospheric environment;
3. Most of the harmful components such as sulfur and heavy metals in the waste are fixed in the carbon black;
4. Due to the maintenance of reducing conditions, Cr3+ will not be converted into Cr6+
5. The amount of NOx produced is small;
6. There is no corruptible organic matter in the thermal decomposition residue, and the ash melting can prevent the melting of financial substances;
7. It can handle difficult-to-treat materials that are not suitable for incineration and landfill
