Successful Coffee Grounds Carbonization Test: Turning Coffee Waste into Valuable Biochar

Recently, Dingli Group successfully used our continuous biomass carbonization equipment to process coffee grounds and produce high quality biochar. This successful production test demonstrates the equipment’s capability to convert coffee processing waste into valuable carbon products through a controlled carbonization process.
Coffee grounds are widely generated by coffee processing plants, cafés and food industries. Due to their high organic content and moisture, proper treatment can be challenging. Instead of being disposed of as waste, coffee grounds can be processed through drying and carbonization to reduce waste volume and produce useful biomass carbon material.
During the test, the coffee grounds were fed into the continuous carbonization system after suitable pretreatment. The equipment provided stable heating and controlled carbonization conditions, while the combustible gas generated during the process could be recycled as a heat source. The resulting material was successfully converted into coffee grounds biochar, demonstrating stable continuous processing performance.
This successful case provides another practical application for our continuous biomass carbonization machine. In addition to coffee grounds, the equipment can be configured for various biomass materials such as sawdust, rice husk, coconut shell, palm shell, agricultural residues and other organic biomass waste.
