Tire pyrolysis refers to the process of pyrolyzing waste tires into different products through thermochemical conversion under the condition of air isolation or inert gas. The tire pyrolysis products mainly include the following:
1. Pyrolysis gas: The gas part produced during the pyrolysis process, mainly composed of hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and C1 to C4 hydrocarbons (such as paraffin and olefins), and may also contain trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and ammonia (NH3). The calorific value of these gases is between 20 and 65MJ/m³, depending on the composition of the tire, the pyrolysis conditions and the type of pyrolysis reactor. The pyrolysis gas can be used by the pyrolysis unit to generate electricity, and can also be further used as a fuel source.
2. Pyrolysis oil: The liquid part produced by tire pyrolysis, also known as waste tire pyrolysis oil or tire-derived oil. It looks like a brown liquid with a sulfuric acid smell, very similar to crude oil, and has attracted much attention due to its high calorific value of about 44MJ/kg. Pyrolysis oil contains a variety of chemicals and components, including aromatics, non-aromatics, oxygenated aromatics, oxygenated non-aromatics, nitrogen-containing aromatics or nitrosulfurized aromatics, etc. However, the large amount of aromatics and olefins limits the direct use of pyrolysis oil as a fuel, so further processing is usually required in order to consider it as a substitute for fossil fuels.
3. Pyrolysis carbon black: The solid part of the tire pyrolysis process, also known as pyrolysis carbon black. It is a charred material formed after the rubber and other inorganic fillers in the tire are pyrolyzed at high temperatures. The quality of pyrolysis carbon black depends on the tire raw materials and pyrolysis conditions. Compared with commercial carbon black, pyrolysis carbon black may have poor rubber reinforcement performance, but it still has a high use value and can be used as coke or recycled carbon black (rCB) in the rubber and plastics industries, and can be used to produce products such as activated carbon.
In addition, waste tires also contain metal components such as steel wire, which can be separated and recycled during the pyrolysis process. For example, the steel wire inside the tire and the bead wire ring can be recycled for steelmaking.
In general, tire pyrolysis products have multiple uses and high economic value. Through pyrolysis technology, not only can waste tires be harmlessly treated, but they can also be converted into valuable secondary raw materials, thereby realizing the recycling of resources.
