Can waste tires be pyrolyzed for oil?
2025-12-19
Can waste tires be pyrolyzed for oil? Yes, waste tires can be pyrolyzed using a technology called pyrolysis, which breaks down rubber into oil, gas, and solid carbon. This oil and gas can be used as fuel or refined into non-standard diesel.
There are two main methods for pyrolyzing waste tires: batch and continuous. The difference is that batch pyrolysis requires feeding tire blocks into the reactor for pyrolysis each time, and then removing the product; while continuous pyrolysis involves continuously feeding tire blocks into the reactor for pyrolysis and automatically separating the products.

The specific operating procedure is as follows:
Pretreatment: Cut the waste tires into small pieces of 2-5cm and use a wire drawing machine to pull out the wires;
Feeding: Feed the tire blocks into the reactor using a screw feeder;
Pyrolysis: Heat the reactor with fuel (such as diesel, natural gas, etc.) to reach an internal temperature of 200-450℃;
Oil-gas separation: Inside the reactor, the oil and gas will separate into layers according to their density. Heavy materials sink and are liquefied into residual oil; light materials rise and are transported to a condenser. In the condenser, the light materials are cooled into liquid fuel oil and stored in tanks; the uncooled combustible gas is transported to a water seal. In the water seal, the combustible gas is desulfurized and purified, and then recycled as fuel to heat the reactor.
Slag discharge: Inside the reactor, solid charcoal moves towards the slag outlet as the tire blocks move. When the solid charcoal reaches the outlet, it is automatically discharged by a slag discharger. The solid charcoal also contains some steel wire, which can be separated using a magnetic separator.
Waste tire pyrolysis is an environmentally friendly technology that utilizes waste. The main products of waste tire pyrolysis are heavy oil, combustible gas, and solid charcoal, all of which can be utilized as valuable resources.
